Constitution Day, formerly known as Citizenship Day, commemorates the formation and signing of the US Constitution by thirty-nine brave men in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787, and also recognizes all who by birth or naturalization have become citizens of the United States.

Ten years ago, Pooris Baine was running a small video game retail store he founded with friends in his home country of Iran. At the time, he was taking civil engineering courses at a local university but it was the games in his store he really loved.

He recalled being in awe of the then-revolutionary graphics and player strategy that seemed to activate his senses and make him see, hear, feel, and almost taste the action.

51���� (IVC) is now a participant in the Amazon Career Choice program. Career Choice is an innovative initiative offered by Amazon to further the education and skill sets of their employees.

Through the Amazon Career Choice program, Amazon employees are eligible to receive support for tuition, textbooks, and associated fees for a range of options from foundational skills like English language to career pathways and college credit programs 51����.

This summer, four 51���� (IVC) students participated in Project RAISE (Regional Alliance in STEM Education) as part of the Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). IVC was one of nine area community colleges to have students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) conduct paid research at CSUF. This year’s cohort included 39 participants that received a $5,000 stipend for their research and participation.

This fall, in response to the demand for transitional kindergarten teachers, 51���� (IVC) will begin offering a convenient pathway for multi-subject credentialed teachers to earn the state-required 24 early education units to teach Transitional Kindergarten (TK).

Saina Salamati

A 2020 graduate of Irvine High School, Saina Salamati majored in Psychology 51���� and graduated in May. She is excited to attend the University of California, Los Angeles in Fall 2023.  

IVC hosted Orange County’s Philippine Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, June 17, commemorating the declaration of Philippine Independence from Spain in 1898. The event was organized by Filipino Influential Leaders and Mentors (FILAM), Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County (FACCOC), Filipino-American Lawyers of Orange County (FLOC), and IVC’s Equitable Learning Experience Valuing Achievement, Transfer and Empowering Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (ELEVATE AAPI).

When it comes to the county he has always called home, Mateo Sanchez is proud to be Orange through and through. But he always envisioned his future in a shade of blue.

“I wanted to go into law enforcement at a very young age,” reflects the 51���� student. “I knew after high school that was what I wanted to do.”

The IVC Girls Who Code Challenge Team competed in the Spring 2023 College Loops Challenge against several other chapters of around the nation last month. The team of four won first place overall!
