The purpose of this organization shall be to foster, promote, and maintain a relationship between the students of the Administration of Justice department and the Criminal Justice System. This relationship will develop programs offering cultural, social, and academic enrichment as part of the total experience of the college; and to the development of leadership, character, and judgment.
Chi Tau Epsilon was named by founding students who selected the Greek letters XTE, which stands for "Committed to Excellence". XTE is the 51ÁÔÆæ Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association-Lambda Alpha Epsilon (ACJA-LAE). ACJA-LAE is a national, fraternal organization made up of both collegiate and professional criminal justice in-service subchapters. The organization was founded in 1937 with the intent of dedication to the professionalism in the administration of justice and public safety.

IVC offers field studies courses during the fall and spring semesters and summer session. Any person enrolled at 51ÁÔÆæ regardless of major can go on these trips. The trips are a fun and educational way to learn about geology first hand in the field. For example, there is nothing like actually viewing a fault that is separating two distinctly different colored beds of rock.
In the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences (GPS), faculty and students study the earth and other planets in order to understand their origin, composition, and development. Their approach to these problems relies heavily on fundamental science and on interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues from across Caltech, as well as at the U.S. Geological Survey and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
