Proctorio Basic Requirements

  • You must be using the Chrome browser
    • Click to check what browser you are using.
  • You must have the Proctorio Extension Installed and Enabled.
    • To check your extensions, click puzzlepiece.png in the top right of Chrome > Click 'Manage Extensions' at the bottom.
    • If you do not have it, you can .  
  • Make sure your Chrome browser is updated.
    • To check if Chrome is updated, click the three vertical dots in the top right of Chrome > Help > About Google Chrome.

Proctorio Support is available 24/7

  • While taking the quiz or from the quiz launch page, you can contact Proctorio Support directly from the Proctorio Chrome extension. 
  • Click puzzlepiece.png in the top right of Chrome, then click where it says ‘Proctorio’ and select ‘Start Live Chat’. 
  • You must be taking the quiz or be on the quiz launch page for this to work.
  • If you are having trouble starting the live chat from the quiz page, which is the preferred method, you can also reach Proctorio support . 

Common Proctorio issues and troubleshooting recommendations 

  • Only Proctorio Support can you let you back into your quiz/exam.
  • From the quiz/exam start page, click puzzlepiece.png in the top right of Chrome, then click where it says ‘Proctorio’ and select ‘Start Live Chat’.
  • Ensure you are using the Chrome browser () and have Proctorio installed and enabled
    • To check if Proctorio is installed and enabled, click puzzlepiece.png in the top right of Chrome > Click 'Manage Extensions' at the bottom.
  • Uninstall the Proctorio extension and reinstall it. 
    • This is a common issue. It is most often resolved by re-installing the Proctorio extension in Chrome. To uninstall in Google Chrome, Click puzzlepiece.png in the top right of Chrome > Click 'Manage Extensions' at the bottom > Click 'Remove' to uninstall the Proctorio extension. Then re-install the Proctorio extension by visiting .  
  • You'll also want to make sure that you have logged into Canvas from the IVC homepage. When you are on the quiz page, the url should start with
  • While you are on the quiz page, the URL at the top of the Browser window should start with ‘canvas.ivc.edu’. If it does not, go to IVC.edu, click Canvas at the top of the page, log in, and go back to your quiz.
  • Make sure Chrome is up to date. Running an old version of Chrome can cause this issue.
    • To check if Chrome is updated, click the three vertical dots in the top right of Chrome > Help > About Google Chrome.

  • Mac users need to enable screen sharing for Chrome in system preferences
    • To enable screen sharing for Chrome, click the Apple icon in the top left of the screen and select 'System Preference'
    • Click the 'Security and Privacy' icon
    • Scroll down on left until you see 'Screen Recording' and click on it. Check the box next to Chrome on the right side of the privacy window. You may need to click the lock icon in the bottom left to make edits.
  • Click for additional troubleshooting steps to resolve problems with sharing your desktop.

  • Make sure the Proctorio extension is enabled. Try removing and re-adding the Proctorio extension.
    • To make sure Proctorio is enabled and/or to remove it, click puzzlepiece.png in the top right of Chrome > Click 'Manage Extensions' at the bottom.
  • Restart your computer. Proctorio requires a minimum of 2GB of ram so if your computer's resources are taxed, this could cause issues using Proctorio. A restart could help.
