About LaserHacks
Our Mission
LaserHacks is a beginner-friendly hackathon that welcomes students of all backgrounds to explore technology, creativity, and problem-solving. Our mission is to create a supportive space where participants can learn, collaborate, and build meaningful projects regardless of prior experience.
Why it Matters
Community at the Core
LaserHacks is student-centered and inclusive. Beginners pair with experienced builders, and every voice matters. We collaborate with IVC clubs and departments to make the event accessible and welcoming.
Mentorship & Learning
From first-time to advanced coders, mentors host mino-workshops and office hours on topics like APIs, databases, and UI/UX.
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a creative event where people come together to collaborate on building innovative projects–typically over 24 to 48 hours. It’s an opportunity to learn new skills, meet people, and build something cool!
Who can participate?
Anyone! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned developer, designer, or entrepreneur, you’re welcome. Anyone taking classes 51ÁÔÆæ will be eligible to participate in LaserHacks.
Do I need a team to join?
Nope! You can register solo. We’ll match up individuals who signed up by themselves to help you find people to work with. Teams usually consist of 2 to 4 members.
Is there a registration fee?
No, our hackathon is completely free for all participants. We provide swag, food, and access to workshops and mentors!
What should I bring?
Bring your laptop, charger, and any other tech you’ll need. If you don’t have a device, please notify the LaserHacks team beforehand so that we can accommodate your needs.
What if I’ve never been to a hackathon or don’t know how to code?
No worries! LaserHacks is beginner-friendly. We offer beginner workshops, mentorships, and lots of resources to help you get started.
Are there prizes?
Yes! Details will be announced during the event.
If you are an IVC student and require an accommodation, please contact Disability Support Programs for Students three business days in advance at ivcdsps@ivc.edu or call 949-451-5630.
