IVC’s Creative Writing program offers classes, degrees, and certificates for students and community members who want to learn and improve upon their storytelling skills and hone their poetic craft. Offering courses in short and long-form fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and screenwriting, our online and in-person courses are for all skill levels and are conducted in a supportive, writing community-focused environment. Students can also learn skills in publishing and podcasting by acting as editors for IVC's public-facing Creative Writing and Visual Arts magazine, The Ear

By studying a breadth of literature, learning traditional and contemporary forms and structures, and participating in writer’s workshops, we offer students the practice, guidance, and community needed to develop and polish skills to pursue their dreams, whether in publishing, selling manuscripts, participating in readings and other writing community activities, and/or personal fulfillment.

No matter the writing goal, our writing community - faculty, staff, and writers in each course - is here to support every writer through each step of their writing journey.
