Keith Gamache

Professor Gamache (KJ) has taught courses in ASL, Deaf Studies, and Interpreting for twenty-five years. He was born and raised in San Diego in a Deaf family and graduated from California School for the Deaf in Riverside (CSDR). He is well-traveled, having worked for Sorenson Communications, one of the premier video relay services in the country. He was able to travel extensively and give training to interpreters in various places for four years. Prof. Gamache began teaching 51ÁÔÆæ in 2014 while working on his dissertation focusing on discourse analysis and interpreted work through Deaf lens.

Prof. Gamache is actively involved in the community along with a long history of service and networking. He is on board with several organizations, namely, San Diego American Sign Language Teachers Association (SD-ASLTA), Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (SCRID), Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE), and as an online instructor teaching ASL linguistics for the Teaching ASL M.A. program based at the University of Northern Colorado. He also does some consultation work on research and diagnostic projects along with presentations at conferences.

When Prof. Gamache is not working, he enjoys leisure time with his family including four children. One of his students asked him if he has learned everything about ASL and the Deaf community to the point he doesn't have to practice any more. He responded, "I think I have just begun to understand the language, and I will never stop practicing using them. I get new perspectives and ideas from watching how other people use the language and create new possibilities." Prof. Gamache enjoys a good portion of the weekend with a 500-piece or a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.

Jaspreet Ghotra

Prof. Ghotra received her bachelors' degree in Deaf Studies from California State University at Northridge (CSUN). She has experience teaching both American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Studies for several colleges including IVC and CSUN. She has also taught dual enrollment courses at local high schools. Born in India, she and her family immigrated to the United States when she was four years old. She grew up in Washington and Oregon before moving to California.

Prof. Ghotra proudly identifies herself as a Deaf person with a passion for teaching ASL and Deaf Studies. She enjoys interacting with students and making a difference. She is married; has a fur pet; and enjoys reading, cooking, baking, camping, and traveling in her free time.

Roy McCrory

Roy McCrory has Deaf parents and is a native user of ASL. His father taught at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside, where he grew up. He graduated from Riverside Poly High School, Riverside Community College as well as the University of California, Riverside. He served in the USMC as an Aircraft Fire Fighter and EMT, living in Brazil for two years where he learned to speak Portuguese.

Prof. McCrory has worked as a professional ASL interpreter since 1995 and holds several national interpreter certifications including: NAD IV Advanced, NIC, and Ed: K-12 certification. Since 2010 he has served as CEO of a small ASL interpreting agency that provides ASL interpreters for school districts in Los Angeles and Orange counties. He has a master’s degree in Deaf Education from National University and taught at California School for the Deaf in Riverside for seven years.

Prof. McCrory has been teaching ASL at several community colleges since 2018, including 51ÁÔÆæ. He is a lifelong learner and has taken DE courses from Gallaudet University including ASL Linguistics and ASL Literature. Currently he is working to become a certified member of the American Sign Language Teachers Association.

Roy McCrory is married, has three children, and spends his time going to soccer games, hiking, camping, riding motorcycles, and as soon as he gets back from a trip, he is planning the next one. He has been to 47 states and has travelled extensively outside of the US, visiting all seven continents. He loves ASL and is passionate about teaching ASL online and in person.

Xiali Wu

Professor Xiali Wu is a dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) instructor. A multilingual educator, he communicates in Mandarin, English, Japanese, and ASL and has some knowledge of Spanish. He is passionate about creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment where students can strengthen their signing skills, deepen their understanding of Deaf culture, and communicate with confidence. Through his teaching, Professor Wu is committed to supporting student success and fostering an appreciation for linguistic and cultural diversity.
